A new look and feel along with new amenities helps create an “elevated experience” at AAA four-diamond Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island
Re-opened in April after a $30 million renovation, the upgrades are across the board, from the common areas to the rooms to the on-site restaurants. Jay Wiendl, general manager, says the team is excited about what’s going on.
“We really have elevated and tailored the overall experience to what guests want.”
Beginning with the resort’s 331 rooms and nine suites
, you can enjoy queen/queen rooms, which were formerly double/double rooms, featuring Low Country touches and color palettes that give the rooms a “neat, clean and crisp look,” says Wiendl. In addition to the custom furnishings, the rooms include 46-inch Smart TV (suites have two televisions), small refrigerator, iHome docking station, Keurig coffee maker and much more. Rooms also feature a private balcony and/or patio area. Currently there are 55 partial and full ocean view rooms, but he says the number will grow.
As far as the dining options
go, they don’t disappoint. Heyward’s Restaurant (“known for their steaks,” he comments) serves both breakfast and dinner, and is the
spot for dining at the resort. For lunch, head to Seacrest Terrace and Patio. The restaurant style is much a Low Country feel with its “porch feel.” It features an indoor/outdoor fireplace, and is home to live music entertainment on the weekend. You can also enjoy tapas-style dinner plates here as well. Over at Bayley’s Bar & Terrace, you can enjoy their signature cocktail, a blood orange mojito among other drinks. They also serve pastries and coffee in the morning, and small plates in the evening. And of course, room service is available at the property as well.
Wiendl calls the newest addition a “beautiful retreat that is a nice place to get away.”
The full-service Arum Spa
is named after a flower from the low lands that is known for re-birth and renewal. Offering three private treatment rooms, a manicure/pedicure room and a post-treatment relaxation room, the spa uses local products and scents.
Of course no resort property is complete without pools, and you find a Zero entry heated lagoon swimming pool as well as a covered lap pool. There’s a special water area for children, too. You can also enjoy relaxing in the Jacuzzi.
And there’s more
. At Sonesta Resort Hilton Head, you’ll discover a new kids’ program
, partnerships with Heritage Golf Collection, allowing access to seven championship golf courses and with Van Der Meer and their 20 tennis courts. Bike rentals are available on-site as well.
If you want to explore the area, it’s no problem with concierge who can assist in planning outings with the resort’s preferred contacts.
“The resort is playful, not too pretentious,” comments Wiendl. “We want guests to have fun but also to feel really special as well when they stay here.”
