Celebrating Mardi Gras 2010 (February 2010)

"Throw me Somethin' Mister!" Celebrating Mardi Gras 2018

From Soulard Mardi Gras in St. Louis, Missouri, to Mardi Gras RVA 2018 at Dogtown Dance Theatre in Richmond, Virginia, on Feb. 10; and all points in between, the South is preparing to celebrate Mardi Gras in grand style. Parades, activities and general revelry are scheduled through Feb. 13, this year's Fat Tuesday.

Each destination brings their style or flavor to the celebrations. What you might experience in one place will be entirely different from another. However, one thing they do have in common is a spirit of fun.

So get ready to don a mask (preferably in the Mardi Gras colors of gold, purple and green), yell "throw me somethin' mister!" for beads and trinkets, and laissez les bons temps rouler (let the good times roll)!

Arkansas

Texas

Home to the third largest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States, the 107th Mardi Gras! Galveston (Texas) kicks off on Feb. 2. The nearly two-week party features over 30 concerts, 24 parades and more. Some of the highlights include a Food Truck Park, Fiesta Gras (Feb. 4), and Family Gras (Feb. 11).

While Galveston's celebration is by farthe largest in the state, other cities and towns are hosting events as well.

Louisiana

No one puts on a party like Louisiana. In fact, for many, the phrase "Mardi Gras" immediately conjures up thoughts of New Orleans. While there is plenty going on in the Big Easy during this time, don't overlook other destinations.

Mississippi

Parades are underway along Mississippi Gulf Coast. On Jan. 27, Pass Christian hosts the Krewe of Legacy, 1 p.m., and in Ocean Springs, there's the Krewe Unique, 2 p.m. February 3 is a day made for kids with Biloxi Children's Walking Parade, 10 a.m., Bay St. Louis Krewe of Kids, 11 a.m.,  and Krewe of Little Rascals, 1 p.m., in Pascagoula.

Other destinations are hosting festivities as well.

Alabama

As the birthplace of America's original Mardi Gras, Mobile celebrates this time with plenty of parades, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 with Conde Cavaliers and ending with Order of the Myths at 6 p.m., Feb. 13. Don't miss Joe Cain Day on Feb. 11, which includes a Joe Cain Procession at 2:30 p.m.

About 30 minutes from Mobile, both cities of Daphne and Fairhope hosts parades, as well as Orange Beach and Gulf Shores on Alabama's Gulf Coast.

Mardi Gras isn't limited to the southern part of the state, either.

Georgia

Florida

The weekend of February 9 -11 is a spectacular time in Pensacola, as the city celebrates Mardi Gras.   The line-up includes the only nighttime illuminated parade, the Krewe of Lafitte Parade, 7:30 p.m on Feb. 9, and the Grand Mardi Gras Parade, 2 p.m., Feb. 10. There'll be plenty of opportunities to catch beads, Moon Pies and more.

Don't forget about the parades happening along Pensacola Beach, either.

Mardi Gras isn't limited to just one city in the Sunshine State.

South Carolina

North Carolina

Kentucky

Virginia

Don't forget about

Not quite during Mardi Gras season, but still fun:
