Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler! Celebrating Mardi Gras 2019

No doubt about it, the South loves to dress up and throw a party. One doesn’t have to look any further than Mardi Gras season to know the aforementioned statement is true.

Regularly dubbed the "the greatest free show on earth," the season kicks off on Jan. 6 (King's Day), with parades typically rolling a few weeks after, and it all ends at midnight on Fat Tuesday, a.k.a. Mardi Gras (dates vary; this year is March 5.)
Apart from the general revelry, each destination across the region adds its own touch to the celebration. What you experience at Souldad Mardi Gras in St. Louis, Missouri, will differ from what you encounter at Asheville (NC) Mardi Gras. However, the one thing they all have in common is you’re guaranteed to have a unique and memorable time.

So, wear your best purple, green or gold duds and get ready to yell “throw me somethin’ mistah!” Have your hands out and ready to catch beads and other trinkets as they rain down from the floats, and laissez les bons temp rouler (let the good times roll)!

Home to the third largest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States, Mardi Gras! Galveston kicks off on Feb. 22. The nearly two-week party features over 25 concerts, 23 parades and more. Highlights include Jolly Jester Jaunt 5K (Feb. 23), Fiesta Gras (Feb. 24), and Family Gras (March 3).

Let's be honest, no one throws a party like Louisiana. When many hear the phrase "Mardi Gras," they immediately think of the state or more specifically, the city of New Orleans.

With so many parades and events happening across the state throughout the Mardi Gras season, a dedicated website,, provides all the needed information for you to have the ultimate Louisiana Mardi Gras experience.

The city of Mobile holds the honor as the birthplace of America's original Mardi Gras. Therefore, it makes sense that the majority of parades take place around the area. For the best information on what's happening where, go to

Don't overlook Alabama's beaches, either. Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and other nearby towns host their share of distinctive Mardi Gras parades as well.
