Well, the changes I've been talking about are finally here. We are 33 days out from completing our big "purge". The life changes that my little family has experienced over the last several months have thrust forward a great wealth of momentum to "force" things to happen for us. The changes are good. I've known that they were coming for a good 5 years before it actually began to manifest itself.
Life as we have known it is ending. We are still months out from the reality that is coming, but this marks a huge turning point for us as a family. We are giving up our traditional home in a middle class suburban neighborhood with a fenced in yard and hardwood floors. We are trading it in and in the process of shopping for a light weight travel trailer to pull behind our small Honda CRV instead.
Say what???
Yep. We are giving up the complexities in life to live more simply and begin traveling full time. Yes, I said we. The boys are coming with me!
So what does this mean? How long will we be on the road? What about school? Where are we going?
Well, this is just the beginning. We are currently starting our 33 day purge, beginning with getting our wardrobes down to a very minimum. I will have limited storage space and only plan to store a few things while we are on the road. Mostly very minimal seasonal clothing. I have already started compiling recipes specifically for the road (thank you www.pinterest.com) as to the types of food that we will be eating. We are going to start trying these recipes out so that once we hit the road we have a few "go to" meals that I know that we all love. Food brings people together if it tastes good.
For the last couple of years I've been working on getting out of debt and went completely on a cash only system for the last year. We will be completely out of debt as soon as the last payments are received by the creditors. The car that we own is not paid for but the plan is to use cash value from a life insurance policy to pay it off. Our annual budget is going to be very small and we are using a sinking fund to prepare for the first year and to purchase the trailer. The goal is to be on the road before the end of 2013. We will be staying with family until then.
I started homeschooling a few months ago and it is going extremely well. The kids are really receptive to the idea of home bound learning and hitting the road to explore new and exciting places. How incredible it is going to be to be able to go to all of these places that we are reading about in our school books! This is going to be the experience of a lifetime for all of us. I’m excited the youngest one is old enough that he will actually have memories of our journey.

We have a lot of ideas as to where we are going but for the most part we're going to wing it and really just take our time exploring and getting off the beaten path. The plan is to be gone for a full year and reassess at the end of the year. The kids and I both are making 'bucket lists' and we are going to cross off as many things as possible!
I have started to chronologize our story and what is happening on Instagram @partyoflee or if you don't have an account of your own you can view it online at

You can follow along and watch it as the story of our life unfolds! Hopefully we can inspire you to let go of the things that bind you from following your dreams. Because it’s okay to follow your heart and your dreams as long as you take your brain with you. I'm just sayin!
