Rainy Treasure Hunt

Sometimes, staying in is half the fun. As long as the company is good, you'll find yourself having a good time no matter what you're doing.

I spend a lot of my time scouting out areas that I would like to spend more time visiting and exploring at a later time and date. There are a million and one things I want to do in Savannah. We stayed just outside of Savannah with friends and had high hopes of heading into Savannah early to catch the sunrise and First Saturday, but it just didn't happen.

By the time we got out of bed and were heading into Savannah the bottom dropped out. So we made a beeline for St. Mary's where we spent the afternoon with friends.

By midafternoon our late breakfast was long gone and we needed a snack to hold us over until dinner. We came upon this enchanting little place called Paulie's. There we sampled some to die for Crab Bisque Soup (it doesn't say "To Die For" on the menu, but it should) and Crab Stuffed Mushrooms. If they were any indication of what the main entrees were like, it was rather impressive.

For dinner we hit up Mudcat Charlie’s. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs! We absolutely packed up what was left, which was a feast fit for a king. Their seafood menu was expansive and had everything you could possibly want, with the exception of raw oysters. Being a raw oyster lover myself, I still found plenty to keep me satisfied and happy.

For our final big hoorah of a meal we went to Barbara Jeans on Saint Simons Island. WOW is all I have to say. Barbara Jeans has the best of... well... everything. From the bread basket to their award winning crab cakes to their chocolate cobbler. To be honest, since we got back there hasn't been a day that has gone by that I haven't thought about making the four hour drive BACK over there JUST for some chocolate cobbler.

These places left an impression on me that make me dream of the next time I will get to go back to the area. I think I'll go to Barbara Jeans a few times on the next trip (for dessert at least).
