Going to the Dogs in Asheville, NC

Traveling friends, are you looking for a vacation spot that welcomes everyone--even visitors with cold noses and a tendency to shed?

If so, then Miss Paws and I recommend Asheville, N.C. for your next trip. In 2011, DogFriendly.com, a website about traveling with pets, named Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway as the second best vacation spot in the U.S. to visit with your canine pal.

Asheville adores dogs. Dogs are welcome here at over 95 types of accommodations, including inns, hotels, and cabins. There are dog-friendly RV campgrounds, public parks, and vacation rental homes. Some properties even offer what I like to call the "spa-la-la treatment" for dogs, with pet massages and paw-dicures.

Even the owners of sidewalk cafes in Asheville welcome our furbabies by providing outdoor water bowls, so they can have a refreshing drink while we sit nearby and sip cups of steaming espresso.

Here are just a few things you and your leashed pup can do in Asheville:

No trip is complete without a souvenir, of course, so before they head home, dogs and their owners can shop at Blaze N Skyy Pet Boutique for a chic new raincoat or collar. If your pup starts to growl—that is, if his tummy growls---you can buy all natural, oven-baked biscuits at Three Dog Bakery or opt for organic, gourmet treats at Woof Gang Bakery.

A 2010 survey conducted by PetRelocation.com said that most pet owners travel at least once a year with their pets. Are you one of those folks? I'd love to hear your ideas about great places to go, and fun things to do, with your Fido!

until next time,

wags,

Lynn and Miss Paws
