More Than a Store, It's a Destination: Five Ways to Experience Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee

Situated in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, along the Mississippi River and Mississippi Flyway, is the iconic 32-story Memphis Pyramid.

In 2015, the former sports arena and concert venue reopened after being closed for 11 years as the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid. This 535,000-square-foot one-of-a-kind destination experience appeals to both the serious outdoor enthusiast and those looking for something new and different to do.

And it all starts when you step inside and find yourself immediately immersed in a swamp environment with 100-foot cypress trees, ponds with live alligator pools and other water features.

Visit ... Of course, you need to check out the expansive retail store that includes the largest assortment of waterfowl and related hunting equipment ever assembled. It also features a wide selection of outdoor sporting gear.

Explore ... Don't miss the Ducks Unlimited National Waterfowling Heritage Center. Partnering with Memphis-based Ducks Unlimited, the interactive wetlands museum educates visitors on the wildlife found along the Mississippi Flyway and the importance of conserving wetlands.

Do ... Take the Sky High Ride, the world’s tallest free-standing elevator, up 28 stories to the Lookout at top of the Pyramid. Inhale as you walk out onto the glass-floored observation decks and exhale as you enjoy the 360-degree views of the city and the river. Afterward, reward yourself with either a drink or a meal at The Lookout at the Pyramid.

Play ... For something a little more whimsical, check out Uncle Buck's Fishbowl & Grill. Not only is it a casual nautical-themed restaurant, but it also has its own saltwater aquarium and a 13-lane ocean-themed bowling alley.

Stay ... Sprawling across the second and third floors, and looking upon the retail and lifestyle spaces on the ground floor is Big Cypress Lodge. It's the first hotel inside any Bass Pro Shops location. Offering 103 "rustic-elegant" rooms and suites, each one comes with either an interior or exterior view. Other hotel amenities include the Spa at Big Cypress, where you can indulge in a Mighty Mississippi Lodge or a Downtown Body Scrub, a fully equipped fitness center, and meeting and events space.

Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid is open 364 days a year. Hours are 8 a.m. — 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aquarium and Fish Feeding is every day at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Admission to the store is free. Some select attractions require a fee. The Sky High Ride to The Lookout is $10 per person (kids can ride for $5 until 4 p.m.) Admission is included for Big Cypress Lodge guests.
